** BPA SCHEDULER WEB SITE AVAILABLE (S)
The BPA Scheduler website is now open for chapters to begin placing students into their competitions. Over the next few days, you will receive an e-mail message with more detailed instructions on how to use the site. However, here are some key things to be aware of:

  1. At the present time, the list of competitions are not in alphabetical order on the website. That will be reorganized soon.
  2. If you have a student who is not competing at the regional level, please register them for the “Not attending” event.
  3. Names should NOT be edited inside BPA Scheduler. If a student’s name is misspelled, please complete the Name Correction Request online at http://registermychapter.com/bpamem/

** PISTONS EVENT
I had the privilege of attending a pre-season Detroit Pistons basketball game this past Friday. The new Little Caesars Arena is out of sight. You and your chapter will definitely want to take advantage of the BPA Pistons Event in November. It is a must-see venue. You will be impressed. Details about the BPA Pistons Event can be found by downloading the “BPA Pistons Event Advertisement and Participant List Form” from www.michiganbpa.org/documents.

** PRELIMINARY MEMBERSHIP DUES DEADLINE IS NOVEMBER 1 (S)
November 1 is the preliminary deadline to enter your advisors and student dues-paying members. The link to enter your dues-paying members is: http://registermychapter.com/bpamem/

All students must be entered into the system prior to the regional conference registration deadline in order to be eligible for ANY BPA competitive event. Students entered as a dues-paying member after regional conference registration will be eligible for open events only. Saturday, November 1 is just around the corner…act today!!!

As explained during the fall leadership conference, you can import your list of students’ names as well as their torch awards activities from last year during the time period when you create your first membership dues list. Click the appropriate “import” button option when you login to the site to create your dues list.

** 2017-2018 MEMBERSHIP CARDS
Remember, Membership cards are now available electronically instead of in paper form. In an effort to provide immediate access to membership cards, National BPA is now providing membership cards via download under the chapter log-in. They will be available once the membership invoice is paid and recorded in our system. National BPA will continue to ship membership pins to chapters and provide a notification with the pins on instructions to download the cards. The instructions will also be found online with your invoice when printed and in other marketing avenues.

STUDENT CERTIFICATION WEB SERIES
From Jacob Taylor, National Postsecondary President and Jon Perrault, National Secondary Vice-President

The National Officer Team would like to invite our Michigan members to register for the Student Member Certification Series. It is a great opportunity for members to learn more about BPA and earn both Torch Award points and recognition at NLC. The course started last Tuesday and will continue for the next seven weeks. You can learn more about the program and register for the first webinar at www.bpa.org/membership/StudentCert

Just click on the Moodle instruction link and it will tell you how to sign up for the course! Please share this information with your students.

MEMBERSHIP REGISTRATION SYSTEM UPDATE
From National BPA

BPA is continually looking for ways to improve our registration process for all chapters. We are excited about the roll-out of a new option for registering new members within the system. Chapter advisors will now be able to import new member registrations into the system using a comma separated file downloadable from within the Membership Registration System.

First, log in to the Membership Registration System, then click on Enter/View Your Members, select the “Import Members From CSV” option and review the instructions about how to import membership. Download the CSV template, fill out the required information, and upload the file to the system. It is that simple.

We hope that this new feature will help simplify the registration process for many of our chapters and chapter advisors. Good luck, and best of wishes to an amazing membership year!

MEMBERSHIP RECRUITMENT WEEK
Membership Recruitment Week is October 16-20, 2017. Please reach out to the students throughout your school to recruit new members. Ask your current members to help with recruitment; they can easily ask their friends to join. Be proud of your chapter and spread the word about your business education classes. Active members in BPA bring a great deal of recognition to the business education curriculum. Take action and have your students engage in some membership recruitment activities!

STATE THEME & NLC TRADING PIN CONTESTS
The state theme graphic and NLC trading pin contest deadlines will be here before you know it. If you have a student who is interested in showing off his/her graphic design talent, these contests are for them. The deadline for contest entries is October 25, 2017. Guidelines and details are posted online at www.michiganbpa.org/documents.

GUIDANCE TO ASSIST WITH COMFORTABLE ENVIRONMENTS FOR LGBT STUDENTS
Yesterday at the fall leadership conference, chapter advisors were provided information regarding transgender students. Since these matters must be addressed at the local level, chapter advisors are encouraged to review the article and document available online at http://www.michigan.gov/mde/0,4615,7-140--393333--,00.html. This article entitled, “State Board Of Education Approves New School Guidance Protecting LGBT Students,” ends with a PDF download that advisors are encouraged to read.

UPDATED 2017-2018 WSAP GUIDELINES / SEPTEMBER UPDATE
An updated version of the Workplace Skills Assessment Program Guidelines are available at www.bpa.org/compete/downloadcenter. Make sure you download the September Update when you visit this page as well. You must have your username and password to download these items.
