Paul Galbenski had no idea when he went to work on Thursday, May 26, that he was about to make history in the State of Michigan. While he thought State Superintendent Mike Flanagan was at his campus to congratulate the staff and students for their work with the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the true purpose of the visit was to award Galbenski with the honor of the State of Michigan Teacher of the Year! Galbenski is the first career & technical educator ever to win the state-wide honor.
Galbenski teaches business courses at Oakland Schools Technical Campus Southeast and is a member of the National Business Education Association and Michigan Business Education Association. One of his greatest accomplishments is being the co-founder of the American Marketing High School, which uses online school programs to enhance the learning of his students.
"Teachers have a tremendous ability to make a difference in not only their students' education, but in their lives," said Governor Rick Snyder. "Paul Galbenski is an extraordinary role model. This award not only honors Paul's remarkable dedication to his students and profession, it also provides an opportunity to recognize thousands of Michigan teachers who have a positive effect in our classrooms every day. Great teachers like Paul and great teaching are key to developing the highest quality education in Michigan."
