Announcing the 2011-2012 State Service Project

By Becca McBryde
State Historian

The state executive council is excited to announce that the 2011-2012 Michigan Association State Service Project is the Salvation Army. Our goal is to collect 500 pounds of clothing and $1,000.00 by encouraging local chapters to collect donations until the 2012 State Leadership Conference. We are asking members to search through their closets for clothes that they outgrew or are no longer worn and bring them to their advisors, who will keep track of what is collected.

The $1,000.00 will be raised in two different ways; the first $500.00 will come from the funds raised by the local chapters and the state executive council, and the second $500.00 will come from the Dollar Dance that will be hosted at the state leadership conference. Students will be encouraged to bring $1.00 to donate at the door while walking into the dance. If a member does not have available money or clothing to donate, there will be other ways to get involved provided by the SEC, such as volunteering time at a local Salvation Army location. We believe that supporting the Salvation Army for this year’s state service project will benefit many people in need of clothing or financial support. Together, we will make a difference for people all across the state!
